WHAT IS OUR MISSION AT Dog Safe Regsiter
Dog Safe Regsiter is currently a non-profit organization and our aim is simple…to help protect the community and reduce the number of unnecessary dog attacks on people and other animals.
Irresponsible dog owners pose a significant problem for the more responsible dog owners, as they allow dangerous dogs to become a threat to the community. These negligent individuals fail to properly train, socialise, or control their dogs, leading to a range of issues that affect everyone.
Dangerous dogs, often a result of poor ownership, can cause harm to people, other animals, and property. Their aggressive behavior can instill fear in the community, making it difficult for responsible dog owners to enjoy public spaces with their well-behaved pets. Additionally, these irresponsible owners may neglect to clean up after their dogs, leaving a mess that tarnishes the environment and creates health hazards. Ultimately, the actions of a few irresponsible dog owners can spoil the experience for the more responsible ones, who strive to ensure their dogs are well-behaved, friendly, and a positive addition to the community.
Signing up to our Dog Safe Regsiter register is a crucial step towards pushing legislation through the government and ensuring that dangerous dog owners are licensed and vetted. By encouraging more dog owners to join the register and actively promoting its importance, we can exert greater pressure on both dog breeders and dangerous dog owners to utilise the register before passing on a dog to a potentially irresponsible owner.
2023 UPDATE - GOVERNMENT SET TO BAN CERTAIN BREEDS OF DOGS FROM COMING INTO THE UK
Currently, shockingly, there are no background checks in place for anyone prior to taking on a potentially dangerous dog, allowing anyone to take ownership regardless of their history of potential dog abuse, violence or neglect. Our goal is to change this policy, but we need the support of dog owners to help us advocate for this change and push it through the government. Together, we can make a significant impact in safeguarding both dogs and the community from potential harm.
HOW CAN I APPLY TO BE ON THE REGISTER AND RECEIVE MY MEMBERSHIP AND FREE DOG TAG?
Membership is simple, however, we do carry out some basic background checks and we will also send you some useful informative files on how to safely and responsibly handle and look after your dog both at home and in public places.
Please see the steps below which we carry out prior to accepting an owner and their dog on the Dog Safe Regsiter register.

Complete an application form:
Applicants will be required to provide detailed information about themselves and their dog, including breed, age, and any relevant training or experience.

Provide photo ID and proof of address:
To ensure the accuracy and legitimacy of the application, applicants must submit valid photo identification and proof of their current address.

Undergo a criminal background check:
A comprehensive criminal record check will be conducted to ensure that applicants have no history of violent or criminal behavior that may pose a risk to public safety.

Obtain liability insurance for dangerous dogs:
Applicants must provide proof of liability insurance specifically covering any potential damages or injuries caused by their dog if it is catergorised as a potentially dangerous dog.

Microchip the dog:
All registered dogs must be microchipped, enabling easy identification and traceability. We will require details of the dog including breed, dogs name and other verification details.

Provide evidence of a muzzle and correct lead:
Applicants must demonstrate that they possess the necessary equipment, such as a muzzle and a secure lead, to ensure the safe handling and control of their dangerous dog.

No previous complaints of animal abuse or neglect:
Applicants will be vetted to ensure they have no prior history of animal abuse or neglect, promoting responsible ownership and the well-being of the dog.
The whole process takes just minutes and we usually let you know if you have been accepted on the register within 48 hours.
Once accepted, you will receive an email with your membership number and details. We will also send out a high-quality, double-sided metal Dog Safe Regsiter tag for your dogs collar to easily identify that you’re and your dog are verified as responsible and safe.
